Silicone rubber (SI) with extreme temperature resistance

We offer closed-cell silicone rubber, which is ideal for sealing applications in environments with both very high and very low temperatures. Its closed-cell structure also makes it resistant to moisture and water. Closed-cell silicone rubber is a high-quality solution that can be used, for example, for sealing in ovens, lighting fittings and electronic equipment.

SI stands for silicone and is a type of synthetic rubber based on silicon with outstanding temperature resistance, often ranging from around -80 °C up to +200 °C. In its cellular rubber form, these properties are combined with a closed-cell, compressible structure that provides a soft and flexible seal – even at low contact pressure. Silicone cellular rubber is available in several formats, including as a sealing strip.

The closed-cell structure means that the material does not absorb liquid, providing an effective seal against dust, moisture, air and water. Silicone cellular rubber also has excellent UV and ozone resistance, low compression set, very good ageing resistance and low flammability. The material retains its shape, elasticity and flexibility over time – even when subjected to significant temperature fluctuations and very low temperatures – and neither cracks nor hardens with age. Silicone is also available in food-grade and flame-retardant grades, which opens up possibilities for use in applications where specific requirements are placed on the material.

Wide range of applications for silicone cellular rubber

Silicone cellular rubber is used in many industries where both sealing and temperature resistance are required. In the lighting and electronics industries, it is used to seal luminaires and enclosures that are exposed to heat. In the food industry, food-grade grades are used in equipment that comes into contact with food, such as ovens, containers and machinery. Silicone cellular rubber is also common in the automotive industry, where components must withstand significant temperature fluctuations, as well as in ventilation, white goods and medical technology, where standards of cleanliness and durability are high. The material also works excellently as a spacer, vibration dampener and filler in structures where a soft, compressible seal is required.

Silicone cellular rubber seals

Silicone cellular rubber is a popular solution when you need a precisely shaped seal made from a temperature-resistant material. The gaskets can be cut to the required thickness and shape to suit your application. Silicone cellular rubber strips are easy to cut and customise, and with their self-adhesive backing, installation is quick and requires no glue or mechanical fastenings. Thanks to its resistance to UV rays, ozone, extreme temperatures and ageing, silicone cellular rubber is a reliable choice where EPDM or NBR cellular rubber is not sufficient – and a long-lasting solution for sealing doors, hatches, enclosures and joints.
