NBR rubber with high oil resistance

We offer closed-cell NBR rubber, which is ideal for sealing against oil, fuel and grease. Its closed-cell structure also makes it resistant to moisture and liquids. Closed-cell NBR rubber is a high-quality solution that can be used, for example, for sealing in engines, machinery, hydraulic systems and fuel lines.

NBR stands for nitrile butadiene rubber (acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber) and, in its cellular form, the material’s excellent resistance to oils and fuels is combined with a closed-cell, compressible structure. This makes NBR cellular rubber ideal when you need to seal against oil, grease, dust, air or moisture – even at low installation pressures.

The closed-cell structure means that the material does not absorb liquid, ensuring a reliable seal over time. NBR cellular rubber is also lightweight, flexible and has good resilience, which means it retains its sealing function even when subjected to repeated compression. The material also offers good resistance to oils, fuels and greases, as well as good resistance to ageing and wear.

Wide range of applications for NBR cellular rubber

NBR cellular rubber is used in many industries where both sealing and oil resistance are required. In the automotive industry, it is used for sealing strips, door and hatch seals, and vibration-damping spacers. In the engineering and process industries, it is a common choice for sealing cabinet doors, electrical cabinets, machine covers and inspection hatches in oily environments. The material also works excellently as a dust seal, shock absorber and filler in structures where a soft, compressible seal is required. NBR cellular rubber strips are particularly popular for sealing doors, hatches and joints – the strips are easy to cut to size and adapt, and with self-adhesive solutions, installation is quick and requires no glue or mechanical fastenings.

When should you choose NBR cellular rubber?

Choose NBR cellular rubber when the seal comes into contact with oils, fuels or greases – in these cases, it can withstand exposure that EPDM and CR cellular rubber cannot tolerate. If, on the other hand, the application is primarily in an outdoor environment exposed to the elements, ozone and UV radiation, EPDM cellular rubber is often a better option, whilst CR cellular rubber (neoprene) is a good all-round solution.
