Semi-open-cell materials such as Nitto are highly compressible and are suitable for applications where the material needs to adapt to varying gaps. Closed-cell materials are less compressible but provide a better seal.

Nitto is a semi-closed-cell rubber that is easy to compress and acts as a seal against water, wind, dirt and heat. It also has good sound-absorbing properties and is available in several variants, including self-adhesive types (e.g. Nitto 1010).
We offer EPDM (black, white and grey), Nitto 685/1000/1200/6800, chloroprene (neoprene), NBR nitrile, silicone-based cellular rubber and PVC – all with different properties for sealing, insulation or absorption.
Cellular rubber is a soft and flexible material with closed or semi-closed cells. We use it as a seal against water, air and oil, as well as for thermal insulation and sound absorption in many types of structures.
NBR is the best choice when the seal needs to withstand petrol, diesel and oil. It is often used in technical environments with high exposure to chemicals.
Closed-cell materials offer high impermeability to water and air, whilst semi-closed-cell materials provide better compressibility and sound absorption. Nitto is an example of a semi-closed-cell material.
These grades vary in terms of density, compressibility and temperature resistance. Nitto 1200 is used for large gaps and offers particularly good sealing performance; Nitto 1000 is a popular standard grade; and Nitto 6800 is a closed-cell option for waterproofing.
This varies depending on the grade: EPDM is suitable for temperatures ranging from –40°C to +100°C, Nitto up to +135/180°C, silicone up to +200°C, and PVC from –50°C to +70°C.
Chloroprene is a closed-cell rubber that provides a seal against water, air and oil, and is suitable when a robust and temperature-resistant solution is required (–40°C to +100°C).
Silicone cellular rubber withstands extreme cold and heat (–80°C to +200°C, and in some cases +260°C) and provides good electrical insulation. It is ideal for use in demanding environments.
EPDM is suitable for sealing against water and air and performs well in many environments thanks to its durability and temperature resistance, ranging from –30/–40°C up to +75–100°C, depending on the grade.
Several grades comply with FMVSS 302; certain Nitto variants meet low emission requirements in accordance with DIN and VDA standards; and silicone meets high fire safety requirements.
